St Gabriel's Aldersbrook
Friends of St Gabriel’s, Aldersbrook
St Gabriel’s Church has been at the heart of the Aldersbrook community for over a hundred years. The Church and its Hall are community assets that serve thousands of local people each year by providing a space for an enormous range of recreational, social and educational activities. However, the maintenance and upkeep of an ageing estate is extensive, costly and time-consuming. In the long-term the Church would like to become greener and more sustainable, and to upgrade the Hall’s facilities, including replacing the kitchen and creating new meeting spaces. A group of mostly non-church goers has been working with Father Martyn to form the Friends of St Gabriel’s on an established model of similar support groups for churches elsewhere.
Aims and objectives
-
The Friends of St Gabriel’s exists to secure the long-term future of the Church and its Hall for all who live locally.
-
The Friends is open to anyone who values the presence of St Gabriel’s as a community asset, including people from any religious background or of no faith at all.
-
The Friends seeks to achieve these goals through awareness raising, fundraising activities, and by mobilising volunteers to offer practical help improve the church, the hall, and the grounds.
How can I get involved?
Now we need your help to secure the long-term future of the church as a community asset. Everyone is welcome to get involved, and there are several ways to help. These include:
– Joining a mailing list to find out about Friends’ events and activities
– Volunteering with the Friends to support events and activities
– Offering specific skills or talents to the Friends or organising an event
– Becoming a supporter by making a small annual donation (see below)
What do supporters do? Supporters of St Gabriel’s agree to make a small annual donation. They can pay on a one-off basis or commit to an annual direct debit. We can claim gift aid on donations from UK tax payers, increasing the value of gifts by 25%. We suggest an annual donation of £25 per household, or whatever you can afford. Supporters will receive an invite to the annual Supporters’ Supper, a social event at which attendees can learn more about the work of the Friends.
